Help Me With "The Swimmer" and other TVO Films
TVO has a problem. They lie about the timings of the films. I usually tape episodes of Saturday Night at the Movies because I'm out or can't stay up that late. Well, the movies rarely begin or end on time. Thus I haven't seen the endings of To Catch A Thief, Shadow of a Doubt and The Swimmer. If anyone can fill me in on the endings please write to me.

Tree Pants
As I navigated along an unplowed Queen Street this morning I saw a pair of pants up in a tree at Church Street. Who puts their pants UP A TREE?

Out Cold
Last night in the second period I committed to a save to the left but had to fling myself back in front of the net as the puck went to the right. I flipped on my back and meant to bring my stick across the net... but then the weight of my fall made the back of my head crack on the ice in a sickening way. When I came to my helmet was half-off and the chin guard jammed up into my nose so hard that it felt bleed-y (although there was no blood). I jumped up and finished the game and got a shut out.

Too Fucking Funny - C-Lister Jason Patric Ruins Innocent Trivia Night in LA Pub
This account of a guy's trivia night being ruined by a boorish Jason Patric is beyond funny and a wee bit sad. I love celebs, perimeter celebs, C-listers and their crazy antics. Don't forget to read the comments below the post in Defamer....

Green
Last night I got the wreath and some green for the kitchen window sill and the creche in the front hall. I also got the tree. All this from East End Garden Centre where there's an endless family of surly ladies ready to help you or cuss you out. The tree is a 7' Fraser Fir, currently standing against the fence in the back yard, waiting for a fresh cut and water. We'll probably put it up this weekend and do the lights while Sarah is here.

The Times
Having a tough time with some issues lately. It all came to a head on Sunday afternoon about 2:30pm while I was sitting in my car in the parking lot of the rink just wondering what the fuck I'm doing with my life. I really was wondering what? why? how? I just sat there for a while. Then like a robot I got my crap out of the wagon and lugged it inside, strapped it on and played hockey for 90 minutes. At some point early in the play my hangover kicked in. I was in a goalie clinic with some little boys. I envied them because they didn't have hangovers and spouses. As a goalie I have NEVER sat or knelt on the ice when in a clinic in between drills. I stand or skate around in little circles if in wait mode. But on Sunday I felt the weight of everything I've ever done pushing down and my shoulders felt like sticks and I knelt with the kids on the ice and I sweated blood. Then I played a game for 45 mins and got a shut out.

The Cards
Yes, I did my Christmas cards over the weekend. Several people have mentioned over the years that my card is the first card that they get and it totally puts them into the Christmas spirit, or at least reminds them that Christmas is coming. I cut back on the volume this year, sending only about 50 cards when I normally send out about 100. Man, at 50 cents for a stamp, it ain't cheap! I mailed them from the post office on Monday. Some cards got to their destinations on Tuesday - the next day! Why then when I mailed my friend's birthday card 7 days before her birthday, it did not even reach her until the following week (taking about 10 business days)? I don't understand Canada Post / Postes Canada sometimes.

Kee-razy Sex Hair
Ah, a delightful by-product of late-night hockey is back, wherein I play late and then come home and have a bath and wash out my sweat-soaked hair, but because it's so late at night I just go to bed with it wet and wake up with some sort of low-fi home perm or, as someone put it, looks like you just had crazy sex and were rubbing your head all over the surface you were horizontal on (could have been a pile of coats, could have been the ground...).

Hockey Hockey Hockey Hockey
I've started back with all my regular teams. Last night I had a good game, breathing was good, stamina was good, all that felt wonky was my ankles which felt achey and tired. My knee felt great... except I had two instances when I butterflied in which I flicked my right foot / calf / knee out to the right to make a save, and then slightly turned and inverted my knee inward... and I felt the screws grinding against my kneecap. I've felt that before, like if Nick tackles me or I kneel hard or suddenly and there's weight directly on my kneecap. It's left the top of my knee a little achey today. I guess that's nothing really to do with the ligament on the inside which seems to be performing well.
Anyway we lost 4-1... the critics say that it was a tough team and we were outnumbered and out-played but two of those goals were stupid mistakes on my part. My saves included a glove save, couple of butterflies, lots of blocker, stick blade, stick shaft and my favourite the crotch save!
Whoever stays at our house over Christmas will likely get dragged out to a couple of hockey games.
