So Very Bored

The first few days post surgery were really hazy and fueled by the favourite street drug of late, oxycontin. Now I'm just bored. 300 channels of TV and nothing's on. The best part of my day is when the physiotherapist comes. I take a pill in anticipation of that because she works me so hard. I watched some pay-per-view movies which were pretty good like Hotel Rawanda and Sideways. Sideways was a bit shocking but funny in a sad way.

What It Do, Readership

That line (minus the punctuation) is borrowed from Top Soil. I am hooked on his blog (I have mentioned this before). I know, it's crazy and mildly pornographic, but I find it interesting and funny. And the writing is good! It's a small window into a world that's completely different than mine. I'm square, I'm white, I'm married 10 years. Not black, not a bitch, not in anyone's stable, ugly feet... The opposite of a bitch, and no one will ever mack on me. Which is fine.

My mother-in-law is finally moved, after 6 months of preparation, 130+ garbage bags hauled to the curb and countless trips to Goodwill. The movers moved her out last Monday. Her new unit was refinished. Then they moved her in this morning. Unbelievable, the odyssey is complete.

I am having my knee surgery tomorrow. Nervous and excited. Happy for it to finally be happening, but dreading being off my feet for 6 weeks.

This morning in the dog park my friend's dog Beth bit a new dog park puppy on the lip. The puppy really howled, cried and panicked. My other friend's dog Daisy was so worried she jumped into my lap as I sat on a park bench. My own dog just wandered around the whole time. The bit puppy, Emery, is ok. He has a small puncture inside his lip and he also bit his own tongue. He is on antibiotics and Beth is to keep away from him.

Matinee Kid

I saw Cinderella Man this afternoon. Pretty good. The best part is Paul Giamatti as Joe Gould.

The Fart Smelt Round The World

Having gas is terrible in our house. Preparing a meal that makes you gassy means that all suffer. Our animals react. Sometimes you let one rip and it wakes up the cat or makes the dog leave the room. Several nights ago I was reading in bed and I was dozing off. I turned off the light and went to sleep. Sometime later I heard Nick come into the room and exclaim, "Oh god! Phew! Hide your eyes 'cos I'm turning on the light baby, I think the dog took a shit on the rug." And then have to mumble that no, it was just me tooting away in bed for an hour. I was so embarrassed I apologized the next day and told him I would try to rein it in a bit. I'll have to start adding beano to things when I cook.

Car Lock Busted Again

For the 4th time our driver side car lock was popped. This causes the windows to roll down and then the car may be burglarized. The difference this time is that the doors were also unlocked this morning when I went out the inspect the damage. When I inserted my key in the ignition to start the car, the lock felt stiff and sticky, and I had trouble removing my key. It makes me think the criminal actually came in the car through the window and put something in the ignition to unlock the doors.

The criminal rooted through a box of old slides in the back. The criminal took a dollar in change from the ashtray (well, the little covered box where the ashtray would be. I keep quarters there for shopping carts). For a dollar in change, the criminal just cost me $400 to repair the lock mechanism.

This happened twice in Parkdale, and once here with our other Jetta (the sedan). This is the first time it's happened with our new-ish Jetta wagon. Usually when it happens all the other Jettas around are popped too (there are about 8 all around the block). Last night, it was just me.

I looked online quickly for some information about his - why it's so easy to shove a screwdriver into the driver side lock and all the windows unroll and the alarm doesn't go off... Couldn't find anything.
